Comment by Paul Maeder, founder and general partner at Highland Capital, a venture capital firm, after hearing from Jim Lindsley about Spiral Incremental Construction :
“Well, first of all, the construction industry is one that’s absolutely ripe for innovation. If you think about it, there are very few things that we buy today that are full custom every time. We don’t buy custom cars, custom computers, custom airplanes … pretty much everything we buy is manufactured in some way or another…except for the house. The unit of construction of a house is a pickup truck which is not a very efficient way to build things; so, I think there are going to be two great innovations in housing: one is around ‘green’ and one is around ‘modularity’; and this gentleman seems like he’s hitting on both angles.”
